FACTORY-DIRECT OEM / ODM MANUFACTURING
Custom Award Packaging Options for Protection and Presentation
Gairun is an OEM and ODM metal crafts manufacturer that supplies custom medals, challenge coins, pins, trophies, plaques and promotional metal products. We provide packaging options for brands, event teams and distributors that need to protect individual products, organize an order or create a more formal presentation.
The right packaging depends on the product and its use. Standard anti-scratch packing and OPP bags support basic separation. Bubble bags add cushioning between products. Velvet boxes provide a formal award or gift presentation, while paper and plastic display boxes serve different branding and visibility goals.
Review the available custom metal product families, then include your preferred packaging format in your quotation request. We will review the product size, shape, surface and attachments with the packaging requirement.
Match the Package to Its Main Job
Start with the main reason for packaging the product. A medal packed for distribution at a finish line has different needs from a commemorative coin presented during a company ceremony. A distributor may also need each unit separated, counted and ready for later packing.
Protective packing limits direct contact and keeps units organized. Presentation packaging frames the product as an award, gift or collectible. Display packaging contains the item while keeping it visible. Some projects need more than one role, such as individual cushioning inside a presentation box.
| Packaging option | Primary role | Presentation level | Typical selection reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard anti-scratch packing | Basic surface separation | Low | Organized bulk distribution |
| OPP bag | Individual product separation | Low | Counting, sorting and handing out units |
| Bubble bag | Cushioned individual protection | Low | Reducing contact around dimensional or assembled items |
| Velvet box | Formal gift or award presentation | High | Ceremonies, recognition and commemorative programs |
| Paper display box | Structured branded presentation | Medium to high | Corporate gifts, merchandise and distributor programs |
| Plastic display box | Visible contained display | Medium | Collectibles and products meant to remain visible |
These roles are selection guidance, not fixed product matches. Final suitability must be reviewed against the product dimensions, shape, attachments and intended presentation.
Use Standard Anti-Scratch Packing for Organized Bulk Distribution
Gairun offers standard anti-scratch packing as a practical baseline for custom metal products. Its purpose is to limit direct surface-to-surface contact during normal order handling. This can be useful for plated, colored or decorated products that will later be distributed by an event team, institution or wholesale buyer.
This format may suit medals, challenge coins, pins, keychains and other metal products when the buyer does not need a gift box or retail-style display. It keeps the packaging focused on basic protection rather than presentation.
Product structure still matters. A flat coin, a medal with a ribbon and a pin with rear hardware do not have the same packing profile. Attached parts, raised relief and irregular outlines must be considered when the packing format is reviewed. Standard anti-scratch packing should not be treated as verified impact protection or as a substitute for a fitted presentation package.
Choose OPP Bags for Individual Separation and Sorting
OPP bags are individual packaging units that separate one product from the next. They are useful when medals, coins, pins or small promotional items need to remain organized for counting, sorting or distribution.
For event orders, individual bags can help keep medal units separate before they are moved to distribution points. A distributor may use them to organize products by design or item type. Brands may choose them when the metal product will be placed into another package later.
The bag fit must account for the complete product rather than the metal body alone. A medal ribbon, pin attachment, keyring or other hardware changes the space needed inside the bag. The product’s width, height, thickness and assembled shape should therefore be included in the packaging brief.
An OPP bag provides separation, but it is not the same as a cushioning package or presentation box. Products that need more protection from contact during handling may require a bubble bag instead.
Add Bubble Bags for More Cushioning Between Products
Bubble bags add a cushioning layer around individual products. They are suited to items that need more contact protection than a simple individual bag provides.
This option may be considered for dimensional metal pieces, assembled awards or products with raised parts that should not rub against nearby units. It can also be useful when a product combines multiple components and needs more separation during handling.
Bubble packaging should be selected according to the full product configuration. Size, shape, relief, edges and attached hardware can affect the required fit. The packaging review should also consider whether the product will be packed individually or combined with another presentation format.
No bag format should be selected from the product name alone. For example, two challenge coin designs may have different relief and presentation needs. A simple coin may use an OPP bag, while a more dimensional design may be better suited to a bubble bag or box. Final compatibility is reviewed for the specific item.
Present Recognition Products in Velvet Boxes
Velvet boxes are intended for formal award, commemorative and gift presentation. They place more emphasis on the opening experience than standard protective packing or individual bags.
This format may suit medals presented at ceremonies, challenge coins given for service or achievement, and selected recognition awards. It can also support corporate milestone programs in which the product is handed directly to a recipient.
A velvet box must fit the complete award configuration. A coin and a medal with a folded ribbon require different internal space. Dimensional features, attachments and the position in which the buyer wants the product presented also affect compatibility.
Choose this option when formal presentation is the main requirement. If the goal is a branded merchandise format or visible display, a paper or plastic display box may provide a better direction. Private-label details can be reviewed through our private-label and custom packaging service.
Select Paper Display Boxes for Structured Brand Presentation
Paper display boxes provide a structured presentation format for corporate recognition, event merchandise, promotional gifts and distributor programs. They can help turn an individually packed metal product into a more complete branded item.
Compared with a velvet box, a paper display box can support a different visual style and program context. Velvet boxes are commonly selected for formal award presentation. Paper boxes may be considered when the package needs to align with a campaign, merchandise range or channel program. The best choice depends on the intended recipient and the way the item will be distributed.
Paper boxes serve a different purpose from OPP and bubble bags. Bags focus on separation or cushioning, while the box is part of the product presentation. A project may still require protective packing within or around a display package, subject to review.
Provide the product dimensions, complete configuration and any private-label requirement when requesting a paper box. Printing methods, inserts, box construction and branding positions are project-specific and must be reviewed rather than assumed.
Keep Collectible Products Visible in Plastic Display Boxes
Plastic display boxes are an option when the buyer wants a custom metal product to remain visible while contained. This can suit collectible challenge coins, badges and other display-led products, depending on their size and structure.
The main distinction from a paper display box is visibility. A paper format places more emphasis on the outer presentation, while a plastic display box can make the contained product the visible focus. The choice should reflect how the recipient or end customer is expected to view, store or present the item.
Compatibility depends on the product’s dimensions, outline, relief and attachments. A flat badge may have different containment needs from a coin with high relief or an item with connected hardware. The specific plastic material, scratch performance and long-term storage properties should not be assumed without a project review.
Prepare a Complete Product and Packaging Specification
Packaging should be specified with the custom metal product so the fit and quotation scope can be reviewed together. A clear brief reduces uncertainty about whether the package is meant for protection, presentation, display or a combination of these roles.
